      <image:title>THESIS PROJECT | in progress - ALMAGUIN HANGAR</image:title>
<image:caption>My thesis proposal explores the conversion of an abandoned 1930s airport hangar into a concept hotel which captures the surrounding natural landscape of the Almaguin Highlands region. Still in progress, these conceptual snapshots study the relationship between the historical and future site development through the lens of "negative" and "developed" film. Intended to frame the landscape from the inside out, this proposal will offer an artistic perspective on the future of hospitality and tourism within the region while maintaining the integrity of the existing cultural and geographic history.</image:caption>

      <image:title>THESIS PROJECT | in progress - THE BUILDING</image:title>
<image:caption>This pre-World War Two airport and hangar was constructed as a part of the Canadian Government’s depression era make-work projects. The existing aircraft hangar is a post-industrial concrete and steel frame building that sits on a large property with three small runways, a surrounding treeline and a small pond. The site was once a fully functioning small-scale airport that linked the Muskoka region and North Bay airports together as a part of Canada’s trans-airline plan, as well as a training camp for both the Canadian and Norwegian Air force during the war.</image:caption>

      <image:title>THESIS PROJECT | in progress - THE REGION</image:title>
<image:caption>Resting in a vast and diverse landscape, this region is surrounded by an excess of fresh water lakes, forests and cascading rock cliffs that make up the Canadian Shield. A region with crisp winters and warm summers the area has long attracted tourists from the south and from around the world that come to explore the region’s natural beauty. Almaguin Highlands region is made up of a collection of townships and rests between Parry Sound and the west entrance to Algonquin Park.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Layered Landscapes is an experiential installation that plays with the layering of artificial and natural environments by creating a curvilinear ceiling plane. Inspired by the northern lights, the installation allows users to wander through an atmospheric experience that utilizes light, sound and movement. This installation was hosted by Coolearth Architecture and was featured as a part of the Toronto Design Offsite Festival January 20-26, 2014.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Intended for a multi-purpose and youthful office space, this design proposal for Jam Direct marketing company in Toronto’s Liberty Village is a playful take on the organization’s mantra: “Justify and Measure”. The office design takes inspiration from units of measurement and highlights particular social and community-based interested within the organization. Some of these initiatives include the encouragement of healthy lifestyles for their staff, sustainable transit practices and local charity contribution by showcasing staff efforts throughout the designated galleries within the public office.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This post-secondary project for the Interior Designer Educators Council (IDEC) student design competition explored the future of post-secondary campus design in an effort to expand educational opportunities beyond institution walls. The design concept is focused around a cyclical learning process that integrates community events and allows the space to function as a global satellite campus.</image:caption>

      <image:title>PROJECTS - ALMAGUIN HANGAR RESORT</image:title>
<image:caption>In the center of the Almaguin Highlands region in Northern Ontario is an abandoned airport hangar, which is gradually being reclaimed by the surrounding woodlands. Drawing inspiration from the region's history of forestry and tourism, this adaptive reuse design project proposes re-imagining the space as a mixed-use resort, giving visitors an authentic experience of the region. The contemporary interior and architectural design elements, such as the various wooden skins used to encapsulate the re-purposed hangar and surrounding private cabins, allow the buildings to blend into the surroundings. Dramatic, curated views of the landscape are framed for the visitor through the use of large windows and exterior hangar doors, inviting visitors to experience the environment, while simultaneously being surrounded by a contemporary interior space designed to reflect the region's past and future.</image:caption>
